Up N’ Comin fans, we’re headed back to Texas today to have Super Robot Party…Or at least to catch up with the band “Super Robot Party“! One of the band members, Richard Crandall, sat down to answer our questions!

Is there a story behind your band?      “Super Robot Party was founded by Richard Crandall in 2006, writing songs with James Gomez for a year and then bringing Tom Burke into the fold for lead vocals. Super Robot Party continued the song writing process for some time and then grew with the enlisting of Matt Crow on guitar and Joe Scott on drums solidifying a five piece band. After a productive fall in 2011, the band finished writing songs and began rehearsal and fine tuning for live performances. The band meshes glitch electronics with spaced out guitar and vocals. Super Robot Party conjures the likeness of Guided by Voices, Explosions in the Sky, The Flaming Lips and the Jesus And Mary Chain to form their own brand of noisy indie rock.”

Where does your band name come from?     Richard felt “like a robot who has this glitch where he likes to party”. So he named his production products “Super Robot Party“. He and a friend, James Gomez wrote nearly 40 songs, before deciding to put a band together to gig with.  After officially forming, the name Super Robot Party just stuck!

How would you describe your fans?      Richard describes their fans as “family”.

What’s your style?   Richard describes Super Robot Party‘s style as “melodic loud experimental indie rock borderline shoegoaze”.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?  He says the hardest thing he has had to do is “restrain myself.”

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?     Richard would like to learn how to support himself off of his art.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?    Richard’s top three choices are Willie Nelson, J Mascis, and MCA.
