Amanda McCarthy

Posted: May 9, 2012 by MacKenzie in New Hampshire, United States

We’re trying to keep it fresh over here, so we’re bringing you Amanda McCarthy from Londonderry, New Hampshire! At only 18 years old, Amanda performs Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Ukulele! She took some time out from recording her new EP and answered our questions!

Is there a story behind your band?      Amanda grew up being a singer, but started performing at a talent show when she was 12 years old. She comments, “Since then I’ve been performing nonstop.”

How would you describe your fans? Amanda responded, “Superfantabulous 🙂 I love them.”

What’s your style?   While Amanda loves her acoustic-pop sound, she hopes that her future songs will span a variety of genres.  She explains, “My goals for further completed tracks (production-wise) range anywhere from my current sound to heavier rock songs”. As for looks Amanda says, “I try to keep my appearance at classy casual, as I dress very casually on a normal basis.”

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?     Amanda would name the biography after a life long joke she’s had, “”The Good, The Bad, and The Irony”.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?       When she was younger, Amanda found herself being bullied by her peers. She comments, “I have had to overcome bullying that lasted all through my grade school years, and I’ve learned the hard way many times who I can and cannot trust”.  On a happier note, Amanda does attribute some of her best songs to an outcome of her experiences with bullying.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?     Amanda would love to learn another new instrument (as if three plus singing wasn’t enough!), but also wishes she had more talent with visual arts. She explains, “Drawing, painting, sculpting, all of it. I have so many ideas in my head that my hands just refuse to cooperate with.”

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?     For Amanda, who she would like to meet was a close tie between three people. First, Taylor Swift, who was Amanda’s inspiration to get “really serious about songwriting back in the 8th grade”. Second, she’d like to meet Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer from the band Greenday, one of her “absolute favorite bands”. Finally, Amanda would choose to meet Michael Jackson because “Come on, who wouldn’t wanna meet Michael Jackson?”

Interesting Answers

How do you say “hello”?     Amanda listed her ways of saying hello from the typical “hi”, “hello”, and “hey” all the way to “howdy” and “greetings”!

What would we find in your refrigerator right now?     Although her real refrigerator is pretty empty (Mrs. McCarthy needs to go food shopping), her refrigerator of life is full of her “current goals and all the ideas of the steps I need to take to make them happen”.

It’s your last hour on Earth. What are you going to do?     Amanda plans to “perform a 20 minute set to a crowd of at least 20,000 people”. The rest of the time would be spent with her family, her boyfriend, Myke, and some of her close friends.

Where’s Waldo?     According the Amanda, Waldo is at the Sad Cafe in Plaistow, New Hampshire. She explains, “They have given me countless performing opportunities and support”.  Her second guess at where Waldo could be found is Wells, Maine, her vacationing spot since she was a kid. She comments, “I’d love to perform there!”

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?     No one supports us in our round box campaign. Amanda responded, “Why would square pizza come in a circle box?”

Hey everybody, this is Up N’ Comin blog with our second feature – Up For Grabs! Headed out from Windham, New Hampshire, this band is composed of Jeff Trovato for Vocals and Guitar, Matt Carbonello with Guitar and Vocals, Casey Coupe on the Bass, Alex Whitehead on the Drums, and Pat Fitzgerald on the Guitar and Keys! As the guys get ready for their music careers to take off (new music and gigs coming soon!), we got some quality Q&A time with Matt!

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?     Matt said that one of the hardest things that Up For Grabs has to deal with is “developing a style that is our our own and unique sounding.”

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?     “It would be to promote effectively,” said Matt.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?     Like our previous feature, Matt wasn’t entirely sure who he would like to meet. “Probably Soupy from the Wonder Years,” he decided.

What’s your style?     Matt describes Up For Grabs‘ style as “Pop Punk.” He lists their biggest influences as The Wonder Years, Four Year Strong, New Found Glory, Set Your Goals, The Story So Far, Balance and Composure, Title Fight, Handguns, and Living With Lions.

Interesting Answers

Where’s Waldo?     Matt answered, “Alex’s Basement.” Now we’re left wondering, what else could we find down there?

How do you say “hello”?     According to Matt, his signature way to say “hello” is “Wink(;”

Summer or Winter?      Thanks to the well-loved Warped Tour, Matt says he prefers Summer over Winter.

It’s your last hour on Earth. What are you going to do?     If he were to only have an hour left on Earth, he would “play POP PUNK to a sell out crowd,” says Matt.

Hey Up N’ Comin Fans! We’re here with our first feature – The Green Bullets! Headed out from Dover, New Hampshire, this three man “Garage-Punk-Blues-Psychedelic Pop-Noise” band is on their way to making it big! With a gig coming up on April 6th in their hometown and another April 15th in Plaistow, we decided to meet up online with two of the members, JW and Harry, for some quality interview time!

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

JW recalled their difficulties moving on from his and Harry’s old band, “Queen Anne’s Revenge.” He says,  “I speak for the group when I say the hardest thing we’ve ever done is overcome the bad reputation of Harry and I’s former band” One of their shows didn’t go very well, and the guys struggled to convince the viewers that it was just bad luck! Meanwhile, Harry admitted that simply balancing time with the band and other commitments to be a struggle and comments, “We’ve poured all of our blood into this band and I think generally that makes keeping up with any outside obligations difficult. ”

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

JW says, “I’d totally love to be able to play ragtime piano,” while Harry just wants to learn how to whistle!

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Harry instantly narrowed it down to Jack White and John Dillinger, commenting, “I can imagine they’d both be pretty intimidating.” JW on the other hand, had a more difficult time deciding sayings, “That’s a tough one. I think Paul McCartney, because he really changed everything for me and I couldn’t be anything without him or The Beatles. Same thing goes for Jack White.

What’s your style?

Both Harry and JW agreed that they didn’t fall under any specific style – they create a style all their own. Harry adds, “We tend to throw whatever influences we have at eachother and see what sort of sound they’ll create.” They both came to the conclusion that their final sound typically came out like the Blues. “In terms of music, we’re like punk-blues-60’s pop-psychedelic-rock,” said JW. Harry kept it simple with “It all tends to come back to the blues, though.”

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

We told the boys to take this either for themselves, or for the entire band. JW came up with, “Bloody Fingers, Gilded Livers” and Harry invented “Loud, Apathetic, And Green”.

JW and Harry also came up with some interesting answers to our non-band questions that we’d like to share!

Where’s Waldo?  Harry:  “He’s safe, don’t worry.”

It’s your last hour on Earth. What are you going to do? JW: “Go to Dos Amigos Burritos and get one last taco. I don’t know what else I’d do, but that’s one thing, for sure.”

Did Noah have woodpeckers on the ark? Harry: “I’m sure he had all kinds of peckers.”

How do you say “hello”? JW: “‘Sup?’ Then a creepy grin.”

Summer Or Winter? Both boys agreed that summer was much better than winter!

You can check out Green Bullets’ music on their Facebook Page or by visiting one of their upcoming shows. They’ll be at Fury’s Public house on April 6th and at the Sad Cafe on April 15th!
